Lurkers

In Internet culture, a lurker is a person who reads discussions on a message board, newsgroup, chatroom, file sharing or other interactive system, but rarely or never participates actively. - Source:Wikipedia It has been said that it is due to a lack of trust that results in this lurking behavoir. And according to Wiki, research indicates that "lurkers make up over 90% of online groups".

I am not sure how many lurkers there are over here. But I know there are quite a few lurkers amongst my friends on FB. They know everything we post, but they never post anything ... not even once in a long, long while, and neither do they comment. Their wall is completely blank, and neither do they chat. Which makes me wonder why they even bother to join these social networks. Just to "kaypoh" (busybody) around?

In a social setting, if you dont participate, your friends very soon will not include you in their social activities. So similarly, I have decided to now block my lurker friends from my FB postings :D

Not sure if its the right thing to do, but too bad. Guess I am in one of those moods.

So are YOU a lurker and lurking around here?? Say something!!

In this society, if there is one day, you go out without a mobile, a computer or any other things can make connections with the world, you are almost a lurker--can receive little information about your friends and even the whole world, do you have such feeling?

I have deleted all lurkers from my fb friends list. Then they all wondered by they were blocked. Haiizz.. No point what. Communication is a two-way process mah! :)

I'm just getting the hang of it, enjoying updates from you friends and being able to like and comment on this and that, and share my own posts as and when. I don't get how come there are some friends who initiate the friending to friend me do not let me see/post on their wall... erm, hello (I want to say to them), you asked to friend me, not the other way around. What's worse is when suddenly i can see their posts/photos 'coz some mutual friend left a comment there, but try as i might, i just can't even click on anything to leave a line! So odd.

But erm if I don't post that often on my wall, you don't block me, ok. Rolled out some pics but somehow the albums came out as one pic, maybe I skipped the publishing. Oh nvm, am getting there bit by bit, better than no posts at all, right?

Back to this privacy thing, i am wondering whether to do some springcleaning?

Gargles - I know you. You are not a lurker.

Chinatours - I am actually quite tolerant. I give more than a one day grace period :P

Jomel - definitely lurker you are not!!

BP - you I know too well to be a lurker.

You know there are many others that visit and NEVER, and I mean NEVER leave a comment. Wonder if I should go Jo's way - only invited readers. Hmmmmm

Aye aye, not me hor. Definitely not lurking on you. I'm a fan ok! So you're not blocking me, right?

I'm shocked at how some of BP's friends are behaving. I guess some people are really more comfortable with a quiet profile but playing phantom is really a bit.. er...

I happened to chance upon your blog and this post particularly interest me :) it's true there are lurkers all over the internet... perhaps I should also do a thorough check on my FB contacts and start "un-friending" the lurkers as well :D
